Mary-Sue Witch Hunt Stamp

Description

I'll hopefully reload this later after I work some creative kinks out of it and make it less f-ugly...Cut me some slack, its the first stamp I've ever made by myself XD

Just to start with, I think a true Mary-Sue is just as annoying as the rest of you. But I think there's a whole other side that people have not considered...

Why this stamp is needed!

The Mary-Sue, though it DOES exist, I believe people hurl the term around like the F-word these days. It's just the latest insult, and no one can seem to agree on just WHAT a true Mary-Sue is.

So what IS a true Mary-sue?

Ask five different people, and you'll get five different answers. Here's the best explanation I've found though!

It's a good read, take a moment to look <3

Now down to business!

Did your OC (Original Character) or FC (Fan-Character) fail that notorious litmus test? (you know what one I mean) Well guess what? I put myself through that test, all my traits quirks, and came out a 'shoot it dead' sue. O.o I'm still scratching my head...

What does that mean?

That means the test is crap for diagnosing anyone or anything as a Mary Sue.

While I question the judgment of the person who made the quiz (it seemed particularly MADE for Bella from Twilight, and felt very biased to me personally) I will not say it's useless! If you take the test and read it, you will certainly learn something about making a more interesting and realistic character. However, I found that any character that has any real fleshed out or detailed story (I mean birth to death details) have all in my experience failed. Characters with little to no development, pass with flying colors.

To quote the above article, a Sue is "generally slapped on a character who is important in the story, possesses unusual physical traits, and has an irrelevantly over-skilled or over-idealized nature."

A Mary-Sue is 1-gorgeous beyond reason (And the beautiful character thinks its a fault), 2-attracts the of all the other characters (romantically or jealously), 3-is talented to the extent of being a prodigy or genius, 4- spontaniously picks up new abilities with little to no effort, 5-everything revolves around the Sue 6- The Sue resolves issues even the canon chars can not

A Sue is an idealized character that has far too little flaws for their disgusting list of strengths.

In Closing...

I see people getting bashed constantly for having 'Mary-Sue' characters, and in all honesty, it bugs me very badly. Most of these people are young, VERY young, and have not yet developed a knack for true creativity which is a skill that is learned and comes in time! Bashing them and seeking them out to flame and annoy is 1- not going to help them become more original or 2-will not reflect very well on you.

I need to emphasis this.

A character being paired with a canon character does not a sue make. (the creator is just having fun)

A character that's pretty or even gorgeous does not a Sue make. (look at the characters flaws, they often time balance it all out)

A character that excels in one area does not a sue make. (Now if they excelled in MANY areas, that's different)

A chaotic love life does not a Sue make.

You can not tell a character is a Mary Sue just by looking at them.

Having one quality of a potential Sue does not a Sue make.

A character is not a Mary Sue just because you dislike them!

Guys, think about what a Mary-Sue is before you sling the trendy new insult around on unsuspecting people who are just trying to enjoy themselves.

....Most of these people are children... =/

I made a Mary-Sue when I was 16, but I've taken to redoing her now that I'm 32, she'll still be a werewolf, but have flaws that balance her.
